Canada's Consul General in Istanbul Mike Ward said Wednesday the trade volume between Turkey and Canada will increase with the opening of a consulate general in Istanbul in October, 2010.
In a visit to the Chamber of Commerce of Izmir (IZTO) on Wednesday, Ward said that Canada decided to open a consulate general in Istanbul in order to develop bilateral relations.
We are continuing to work for our consulate general. Once the consulate general goes into service, our trade volume of two billion USD with Turkey will go up, Ward stressed.
With the inauguration of our consulate general in Istanbul, we will have a chance to visit Izmir more frequently. Canadian companies can work with Turkish counterparts in the fields of energy, environment, mining and automotives, Ward underlined.
President of the Executive Board of IZTO, Ekrem Demirtas, said that Canada had a total trade volume of 600 billion USD.
If Turkey conducts one percent of Canada's total trade volume, this would imply a trade volume of six billion USD. In order to reach this goal, the businesspeople of the two countries must visit each other, Demirtas said.
Turkey has taken a decision to grow in the field of aerospace. Canadian companies should closely follow the developments in Turkish aerospace industry, Demirtas also said.
